Overnight lane restrictions along Charleston's Fort Hill Bridge planned for weekend

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Interstate travel will be impacted near Charleston’s Fort Hill Bridge over the weekend as crews address expansion joints, transportation officials said.
Overnight lane restrictions along Interstate 64 will alternate starting Friday evening and running through Sunday morning, according to a news release from the West Virginia Department of Transportation.
The news release said restrictions will start with eastbound lanes at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 and conclude about 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. Westbound lane restrictions are expected to run from 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The DOT noted "traffic should not be affected during daylight hours."
Lane restrictions were scheduled hours after transportation officials announced an overlay project on the span was complete.
The DOT said crews paved over existing joints and will now cut around them to install rubber expansion joints, allowing the bridge to flex.
The multi-million dollar project aims to extend the life of the 50-year-old span until a full deck replacement is planned within the next couple years.
