The West Virginia Mountaineers' women's basketball team, playing a de facto home game at the Greenbrier Resort in nearby White Sulphur Springs, not only upset No. 15 Duke 57-49 on Friday, but did so in crazy come-from-behind fashion with just five available players for the second half.

As the game entered halftime, WVU's Jordan Harrison and Duke's Jordan Wood engaged in a shoving match after Wood and teammate Ashlon Jackson appeared to taunt Harrison when she couldn't get a shot off before the clock expired. Harrison responded by shoving Wood forcefully, causing the two, as well as Jackson, to have to be separated by referees.

Meanwhile, five players came off of WVU's bench to assist Harrison, making them automatically eligible for ejection. In total, six of WVU's players were ejected, including Harrison, Jordan Thomas, Madison Parrish, Carter McCray, Kierra Wheeler and Gia Cooke. Wood was the only player ejected for Duke.

Of the WVU ejections, Parrish was the only one to not record a minute of play in the game.

That left the Mountaineers with just five players available to play the entire second half: Sydney Shaw, Sydney Woodley, Riley Makalusky, Cece Riviere and Loghan Johnson.

Despite Duke leading WVU 23-20, the five remaining players mounted an insane comeback while also playing the entire second half with no substitutions. The Mountaineers dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 24-9 to take a 44-32 lead entering the fourth quarter.

That put the game just out of reach for Duke despite a solid fourth quarter, allowing WVU to take a major upset in one of the wildest fashions imaginable.

Shaw led the way with 16 points on a whopping 38 minutes of play in the 40-minute game. She was the only Mountaineer who started the game that played the second half. Riviere also contributed 12 points on 22 minutes of play. WVU outscored Duke heavily in free throws, and was able to outrebound the Blue Devils just slightly.

Duke's leading scorer Taina Mair could only muster 10 points in the upset loss. Duke now has two losses, both upsets to lower-ranked/unranked teams, and both coming at neutral site games, as their other loss came to No. 16 Baylor, when the Blue Devils were ranked No. 7, in Paris, France.

Of the WVU ejections, Parrish was the only one who did not record a minute of play in the game. It is unclear whether or not additional penalties will be handed down to any of the six players ejected.

The two teams met up at Colonial Hall at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs as the opening game of the Greenbrier Tip-Off event, which will feature nine games in 10 days. WVU and Duke was the only women's hoops game on the schedule.

No. 15 Duke falls to 2-2 with the upset and will look to regroup on the road against Liberty University. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip-off on Sunday, with streaming coverage provided by ESPN+.
