The Mountain State Derby will get another postseason chapter added to its history.

West Virginia men’s soccer will host Marshall in the semifinal round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

The matchup is a rematch of last season’s tournament championship game where the Mountaineers prevailed 6-5 on penalty kicks. WVU also won the previous meeting with the Thundering Herd this season 3-0 in Morgantown.

West Virginia edged Old Dominion 5-4 on PKs on Sunday to advance. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 1-0 lead and then fell behind 2-1 before clawing back to force overtime.

In the nightcap Sunday, Marshall pulled away from Georgia State 3-1 to advance. The Herd took an early lead, but saw the score leveled less than a minute later.

Marshall scored two more goals – one before halftime and one with 10 minutes left in the game – to settle the final score.

The winner of Wednesday’s matchup will play the winner of No. 1 Kentucky and No. 5 UCF in the Sun Belt championship Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
