WVU, Marshall football fighting for bowl berths in final weeks of season

WEST VIRGINIA (WCHS) — It is almost time for postseason college football, and two local teams are still fighting for bowl eligibility.
Both Marshall (4-5) and West Virginia (4-6) need to win two games to ensure they make a bowl game. The Thundering Herd has three games remaining while the Mountaineers have no room for error and need to win both of their remaining games.
Marshall will have to pick up at least one win on the road as the next two games – Georgia State and App State – are away from home. The Herd closes out the regular season at home against Georgia Southern.
None of the teams on Marshall’s remaining schedule have winning records with Georgia State at 1-8 and both App State and Georgia Southern at 4-5.
In stark contrast, the Mountaineers – whose chances at a bowl game have been revived after two straight wins – have a much tougher path to six wins facing two teams with winning records.
First, WVU travels to Arizona State (6-3) this weekend before getting a week off ahead of a season-finale at home against Texas Tech (9-1).
