WVSU men and women sweep UC on the hardwood

The Mountain East Conference men's and women's basketball regular season came to a close on Saturday and it was senior day in Institute.

The women's game tipped off first and it wasn't close. The Yellowjackets led by as many as 50 points and would go on to knock off the University of Charleston 84-37.

UC struggled from the floor, connecting on just 14 field goals for the entire game on 25% shooting. Destiny Fields had a game-high 20 points for WVSU.

Twenty minutes after the women's game concluded the UC and WVSU men tipped off. UC entered with a one game lead over West Liberty in the MEC standings but couldn't get by WVSU, falling 83-66.

The Yellowjackets won both meetings between the two schools this season. WVSU won the January matchup on the UC campus82-75.

On Saturday, senior Anthony Pittman scored a game-high 36 points on 11-of-19 shooting. The Charleston native had the home crowd on their feet with an alley-oop dunk in the first half.
