The 1964 New York World's Fair may be best remembered for its optimistic and visionary outlook on the future.

It brought us the birth of the Ford Mustang, which is riding high decades later. It also brought us five inventions that almost changed the world.

The theme was “Peace through Understanding,” with the stainless steel Unisphere as its symbol. With dozens of countries in attendance, it was an international affair.

It was a showcase of American ingenuity as hundreds of U.S. companies took center stage, unveiling their dreams of a high-tech tomorrow.

Along with the epic failures, there were also some ideas that were ahead of their time.
