This is the 100th season for football at Sherman High School and it just so happens to be 50 years since the Tide's only appearance in a state championship game.

Sherman fell to Ceredo-Kenova back in 1975 for the Class AA title. Now in 2025, Sherman is searching for a Class A crown.

Sherman earned the right to host a playoff game in the opening round of the West Virginia high school football playoffs though, they won't be playing inside their on-campus venue of Zontini Field as heavy rain deteriorated its condition.

Instead, the Tide will entertain East Hardy in a showdown at Riverside High School's Warrior Stadium Friday night.

Head coach Kevin Buzzard said every game has been critical, but a young squad has pushed past two tough losses and look forward to the post season.

“We don’t have very many seniors, but we’ve got a good group of young kids that moved up from junior high,” Buzzard told Eyewitness Sports. “They’re tough and those kids play hard. They don’t give up. They don’t quit.”

Sherman is the No. 5 seed at 8-2 while East Hardy comes in as No. 12 at 5-5.
