Wayne County’s sheriff said a man was arrested after a vehicle pursuit and drugs were found in his pocket.

Terry Dale Smith, 57, was taken into custody Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit, Sheriff Rick Thompson said.

The sheriff said the drug enforcement unit was making a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Centerville Road and Whites Creek when the vehicle accelerated and was heading in the opposite lane.

After a brief pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody. The sheriff said methamphetamine and pills were seized from the suspect’s pocket.

Smith is charged with felony fleeing and felony meth possession and is currently being held at the Western Regional Jail. No bond was listed Wednesday morning.
