Records: Man charged after found with bag of meth at Boone County recovery center

BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — Court records said a man faces a drug charge after video surveillance captured him walking down the hallway of a Boone County substance abuse treatment center and dropping a bag of methamphetamine.
Austin Lee Fields, 29, of Logan was charged Monday after an incident reported Feb. 27 at the Lotus Recovery Center on Deanna Street in Comfort, according to a criminal complaint filed in Boone County Magistrate Court.
Court records said a deputy responded to the recovery center to investigate a drug complaint. The officer spoke to administrators and viewed surveillance video that shows the suspect walking down the hallway and passing a Lotus worker. The complaint said the video shows a bag that was in Fields’ possession and fell to the ground.
A person picked up the bag and took it into the office, opening the bag and finding a crystal-like substance that appeared to be meth, the complaint said.
After taking the bag and having the substance tested, the sheriff’s office discovered the substance weighed about 14 grams and tested positive for meth.
Fields is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He is currently being held at the Western Regional Jail a $25,000 surety/cash bond.
