Raleigh County home searched in connection to cold case involving missing mother and daughter
MABSCOTT, W.Va. (WCHS) — Investigators may be a step closer to solving a decades old case in Raleigh County involving a missing mother and her daughter.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Pittsburgh confirmed it conducted "law enforcement activity" at a home on Kyle Road in Mabscott on Tuesday in connection to the investigation into the 2000 disappearance of Susan Carter and daughter, Natasha "Alex" Carter.
Troopers said they were able to identify and recover additional forensic evidence related to the investigation.

"We, along with our law enforcement partners, are working diligently to bring answers to Alex Carter’s family," FBI spokesperson Catherin Coennen said.
Natasha, 10, and Susan, 40, were last seen in the Beckley area on or about Aug. 8, 2000, according to investigators. At the time of their disappearance, Susan and Natasha’s father were having a custody dispute and the girl had moved in with her mother and her mother’s new husband. Not long after she moved in, the pair vanished.

Age-progressed photos of Natasha and Susan were previously provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2021.
A $20,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to a discovery of Susan & Natasha Carter.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Beckley detachment of West Virginia State Police at 304-256-6700.
