The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man who nearly stole thousands of dollars worth of items from a local hardware store.

According to a Facebook post from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office on Sunday, the suspect allegedly had over $2000 worth of power tools and bits from the Teays Valley Home Depot in Hurricane. Deputies said he loaded the items up in a shopping cart and was prepared to take it with him without paying.

Deputies said the suspect left the cart by the door and took off just before Home Depot's loss prevention team could get there. According to surveillance pictures, the suspect drove off in a red truck.

The images the Sheriff's Office posted also feature the suspect wearing a black shirt and black hat, both with a Cummins-branded logo on them. The suspect was also wearing blue jeans and black shoes at the time with a chain around his neck.
