The North Bears made a defensive stand with just over a minute remaining to hold off the South Cardinals in the annual North-South Football Classic at Black Eagle Stadium on the campus of South Charleston High School.

Trailing 8-0 with 1:02 remaining in the game Sissonville Quarterback Will Hackney connected with Sherman's Jacob Hensley for a touchdown to cut the lead to 8-6.

Trying to tie the game, the South went for a 2-point conversion, but the North defense knocked down a pass to secure the victory.

Defense was the theme of the day as the team went into the half without scoring.

The North would strike first in the third quarter when Fairmont Senior quarterback Conner Neal connected with his fellow Polar Bear Rhett Heston for a 73-yard touchdown pass.
