Nancy Mace joins race for SC governor after late-night announcement

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Congresswoman Nancy Mace officially announced her bid for state Governor late Sunday night. This comes before she was set to make a "special announcement" at an event in Charleston Monday morning where she officially declared her candidacy.
Mace's "special announcement" event was Monday at 7:30 a.m. live from the Citadel, where Mace was the first female cadet to graduate. Watch the full event below:
Mace posted the announcement to her 'X' account late Sunday.
The Lowcountry congresswoman has been mulling a run for governor for months after admitting she was entertaining the idea back in January. The GOP field battling it out to replace Gov. Henry McMaster is already crowded with notable names including Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, and Mace's congressional counterpart Rep. Ralph Norman. State Senator Josh Kimbrell rounds out the declared candidates so far.
Mace was first elected to office in 2018 to represent State House District 99 before defeating Democrat incumbent Joe Cunningham in 2020 to take over the Lowcountry's US House District 1 seat, going on to win reelection in 2022 and 2024. She is an ardent advocate for mass deportations and is "not a fan of the trans," her office said.
