Marshall outlasts Texas State for second-straight win

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Marshall football outlasted Texas State 40-37 in double overtime Saturday to pick up its second straight win.
The Thundering Herd traded blows with the Bobcats throughout the contest, but found themselves down 24-19 late in the fourth quarter. That’s when quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson found Adrian Horton for a 21-yard touchdown to take the lead.
Demarcus Lacey converted the two-point conversion to give the Marshall a 27-24 lead with 1:20 to play. The Bobcats, however, would respond again, converting a field goal as time expired to send the game to overtime.
In the first extra frame, both teams found the end zone, but in the second, Marshall’s defense came up with a stop to force a field goal.
That set up Joshon Barbie’s game-winning touchdown run from a yard out to give the Herd the win.
Del Rio-Wilson finished with 277 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception through the air. He also added a game-high 88 yards rushing on the ground.
Antwan Roberts added 41 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown and Barbie contributed 33 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns.
Lacey led Marshall through the air with 88 yards on seven receptions. De’Andre Tamarez added 59 yards on three catches while Norton finished with 54 yards on five catches.
Marshall (4-3, 2-1) will have next weekend off before hitting the road for a Thursday night contest at Coastal Carolina that will be televised on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m.
