Marshall doubles up Old Dominion 48-24, snapping Monachs' four-game win streak

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Marshall University snapped a four-game win streak for Old Dominion in Huntington on Saturday, doubling up the Monarchs 48-24 in a Sun Belt showdown.
The contest marked the Herd's first conference victory for the season. Marshall showed a balanced offensive attack with 222 yards receiving and 223 yards on the ground along with two sacks and two picks on defense.
Marshall's defense earned the first score of the game as Boogie Trotter picked off Dominion’s Colton Joseph and made a house call. Joseph later evened the score with a 71-yard toss to Tre Brown III.
In the second frame, Marshall quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson produced two scores, connecting with Michael Allen for a 49-yard catch-and-run along with a QB keeper.
Each squad booted a field goal in the first half, resulting in a 24-10 home advantage at the break.
The third quarter belonged to Marshall. Antwan Roberts scored a rushing touchdown, Floyd Lacey ran a quick slant to the end zone and freshman kicker Lorcan Quinn tacked on a field goal.
Lacey would go on to lead all receivers with 121 yards.
Quarterbacks traded rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Brown added another TD to improve the Monarchs' box score late in the match.
Carlos Del Rio-Wilson went 17-24 for 219 yards passing and was Marshall's leading rusher with 95 yards.
Marshall improved to 3-3 on the season while Old Dominion fell to 4-2.
Next up, the Herd hosts Texas State. Kickoff at Joan C. Edwards Stadium is slated for 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 18.
