Kentucky's Opioid Abatement Advisory Committee is on a mission, getting input on how to spend $478 million - the amount the state is getting from the multi-state national opioid settlement.

Tuesday night the commission held the second of eight town hall meetings in Ashland. Some of the common messages from the meeting was the need for more transportation, more recovery centers and getting rid of the stigma that surrounds substance abuse treatment and recovery.

The commission has six more town hall meetings across the state,

"We are going to look for consistent themes that have emerged from each town hall meeting so we can set the commissions priorities in response to the needs that have been identified by the people we have met across the state." said Bryan Hubbard, executive director and chairman of the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission.

The state of Kentucky will get half the settlement dollars. The commission will oversee how the other half is used. Next month an online portal will be set up for people and groups to apply for grants to help fight the opioid epidemic.
