Kanawha County women win agriculture awards presented by WVU Extension

ROANOKE, W.Va. (WCHS) — WVU Extension has recognized two Kanawha County women with agriculture awards.
Keyara Frederick was awarded a first-place prize of $3,000 while Licia Pannel received $1,000 for third place in a pitch competition held at Lewis County’s Stonewall Resort, according to a news release.
The release said Frederick, also known as Chef Ke, is working to eliminate food deserts and make locally-sourced meals to minority communities.
Panell, with Unity Sisters Farms, is working to educate youth on keeping bees and raising chickens.
Additional winners included Jennifer Schleyer, of Middle Mountain Farmstead, Natasha Zoe of Jarhead Farm, Jennifer Gilkerson of Sunset Berry Farm and Carol Webb of Jean's Fresh Flowers.
WVU Extension said the inaugural competition featured 12 women-owned agriculture businesses.
