A Michigan father of three boys who have been missing for 15 years was charged with murder.

John Skelton, of Morenci, was charged two weeks before his expected release from prison on earlier charges stemming from the investigation into the whereabouts of his kids.

Skelton, 53, was charged Wednesday with three counts of open murder and three counts of tampering with evidence, according to court records obtained by CBS Detroit.

The dates of the offense are listed as Nov. 25, 2010, the last known date the boys were seen alive.

His three sons, Andrew, 9, Alexander, 7, and Tanner, 5, were last seen in Nov. 2010, and have never been found, despite repeated searches.

The three boys were formally declared dead in March 2025 upon request of their mother, Tanya Zuvers. At the time, a judge declined a request to declare that Skelton murdered the children.

Skelton pleaded no contest to three counts of unlawful imprisonment over failure to return the boys after a court-ordered visitation. He was issued a 15-year sentence.
