Skeletal remains that were found near Milham Park in Kalamazoo Wednesday night are believed to be those of a missing 62-year-old man, detectives with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) announced Thursday.

Officers were first called to a wooded area off of Lovers Lane near Milham Park Golf Club around 5 p.m. after someone had reported they found possible human remains, KDPS said.

Because of fading daylight and the need to properly preserve the area, authorities secured the scene overnight until detectives, crime lab personnel, and the medical examiner's office could conduct a detailed search Thursday morning.

Police said they will not be releasing his name until a positive identification has been made and his family has been notified. He was previously reported missing by family in the immediate area, however, KDPS did not say when that report was made.

Detectives are still waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause and manner of his death.
