Hello everyone—I’m Gil McClanahan, and I’m proud to be in my second stint with Eyewitness News.
From 2005 to 2006, I covered stories across Cabell County, eastern Kentucky, and southeastern Ohio.
After stepping away to work at two other television stations here in West Virginia, I came back to Eyewitness News in 2015, reporting once again in the western part of our viewing area.
I grew up in Putnam County and graduated from Cross Lanes Christian School in 1983. I went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcasting from Cedarville University. Since then, I’ve spent more than 20 years in television news, starting with my first job in Valdosta, Georgia. Over the years, I’ve worked as both a reporter and anchor at stations across the South and even in Idaho.
Throughout my career, I’ve covered a wide range of stories—some lighthearted and others deeply emotional. I’ve interviewed an Elvis impersonator, learned how to drive a tractor-trailer, and once stood just feet from a grizzly bear with only an electric fence between us. But the moments that have stuck with me the most are those that revealed real human emotion: the grief of a mother who lost her son at sea, and the heartbreak of a restaurant owner in eastern North Carolina whose business was destroyed by Hurricane Floyd.
I’m an avid baseball fan and enjoy classic country music, southern gospel, a good laugh from a dumb comedy, and the action-packed adventures of James Bond films.
I’ve been married to my wife and best friend, Connie, for more than 30 years. We have one son, Trevor, and as a family, we love meeting new people and connecting with the community we call home.
