UC softball blanks Bloomsburg 3-0 in NCAA Tournament
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The University of Charleston softball team entered the NCAA tournament at 45-4, but came in as the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Region.
The Golden Eagles' success in Charleston -- a 20-1 home record -- continued during the first round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday as UC blanked Bloomsburg 3-0.
Nitro native Brianna McCown was sharp in the circle and improved to 31-3 with the win. McCown threw a one-hit shutout, while striking out six and walking just one batter.
Offensively, Charleston got on the board in the fourth inning.Bianca Polistina started things off by stretching a hit into a double to lead off the inning. Polistina then moved to third whenAllison Rubal bunted her over and then Polistina scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 UC.
In the fifth inning, Charleston extended its lead to 3-0 when Bella Andujar homered to left following Hannah Rose being hit by pitch. McCown went the distance and picked up a strikeout for the game's final out.
