Raleigh County deputies said a man who was under investigation in a drug case was arrested after he a ran from police, jumped into a drainage canal and had to be rescued by firefighters.

Davon Jamir Linder, 23, of Akron, Ohio, was arrested on an unrelated parole violation by Beckley police on Wednesday following a foot chase in the area of Staples at the Beckley Plaza, according to a news release from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.

While he was running from police, he jumped over a guardrail into a large drainage canal and had to be rescued by the Beckley Fire Department, the news release said.

Deputies said the arrest came about the same time that a search warrant was being served at an apartment on Beckwoods Drive in Beckley. Methamphetamine, marijuana, fentanyl and more than $3,200 in drug proceeds were seized at the apartment. Linder was the focus of the investigation, deputies said.

The Beckley Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, assisted by the Beckley Police Department and the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team served the warrant.

Drug charges are pending against Linder, who is currently being held at the Southern Regional Jail.
