PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Putnam County man has been charged after deputies said another man was allegedly beaten and held in a large dog house, court records said.
Larry Newberry, 57, of Scott Depot is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit felony kidnapping following an incident on June 20, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.
The arrest comes after a 911 caller reported that a man who appeared beaten and bloody could be heard screaming “help me” while other men were yelling “he got out,” the complaint said. The man eventually hid on the caller’s property until law enforcement arrived and he was taken to a local hospital.
Deputies said the alleged victim told them he was beaten over the head with a firearm and forcibly put in a large dog house that was blocked by a large chest and ratchet straps.
The man said he was held against his will by Newberry and three others who accused him of stealing drugs, the complaint said.
Newberry is currently being held on a $150,000 surety/cash bond.
