The Riverside Warriors managed just one win last season under new coach Heath Huffman.

Now, the Warriors hope to improve off that in 2025.

"We've had a good offseason, we've got some younger guys coming in,” Huffman said. “We've kind of went back to basics here. Went back to the simple things and went from there.

"Kids have pushed all summer long. We're probably in the best shape we've been in in a long time,” he continued. “Everybody's on board. Doing what they're supposed to do."

Riverside will have its share of talent and experience on both sides of the ball.

"Offense this year, we're going to have DeSani McCallister. He's our starting quarterback,” Huffman said. “He's running a good offense. Everybody's jiving and meshing. Obviously, we have Malachi Hope, who’s going to do some fabulous things this year.

"Our offensive line is a little bit young but they're pulling together real hard and they're doing real good,” he continued.

On the other side of the ball, the Warriors have changed some things up.

"Defensively, we've changed a little bit – tweaked it from last year,” the head coach said. “Lot of the same guys are coming back. We're still young. We've got juniors now instead of sophomores and freshmen. We're flying and moving to the ball real well.”

The school's last non-losing season was 2009. Huffman knows it's going to take time, but said this bunch is excited to make things happen in 2025.

"We've had a couple of good scrimmage games. We tested ourselves. there. Had mistakes, but overcome them,” he said. “We're excited to get going."

Riverside opens the season Friday night at home with Greenbrier East.
