KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — The Coal River flows north through Kanawha County where it eventually merges with the Kanawha River in St. Albans.
The Eyewitness News SkyTeam drone shows the convergence of the two rivers in footage captured on Jan. 17, 2020.
The Coal River offers opportunities for Kanawha County residents to get outdoors for kayaking, fishing or even a driving tour.
The river is home to the annual Tour de Coal paddling event where hundreds of people float the 11-mile trip from Upper Falls to St. Albans.
The annual event, and many others hosted by the Coal River Group, was forced to cancel in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
