Charleston man pleads guilty to participating in meth trafficking organization

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Kanawha County man is among 30 people indicted following an extensive drug trafficking investigation.
Jasper Wemh, 38, of Charleston admitted to participating in a drug trafficking organization and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, according to a news release Thursday from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.
The news release said Wemh admitted to working with several other people to distribute methamphetamine in and around Charleston. Wemh reportedly obtained meth from a supplier on consignment and had multiple customers redistributing the drug.
Federal prosecutors said Wemh admitted to obtaining several pounds of meth in December of last year and paid a supplier $250,000 from proceeds of the drug trafficking operation.Wemh also reportedly admitted to distributing cocaine out of a Greenbrier Street residence.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 20 and Wemh faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison along with five years to a lifetime of supervision upon release from prison and a $10 million fine, prosecutors said.
Co-defendants Larry Wayne Legg, 55, and Justin Allen Bowen, 40, both of Charleston pleaded guilty to drug charges earlier this year while remaining defendants are scheduled for trial.
Authorities said the investigation of dozens of people led to the seizure of more than 200 pounds of methamphetamine, 28 pounds of cocaine, 20 pounds of fentanyl, 18 guns and nearly $750,000 in cash.
