Bouts of torrential rain will lead to significant flooding in some areas into next week

A slow moving front and very high humidity led to some parts of the area receiving 3-4" of rain today, resulting in flash flooding. This was particularly true in parts of Roane and Athens Counties.

More rounds of torrential rain in thunderstorms will be likely not only this week but into most of next week as well.

Different areas will get hit on different days but most of us can expect at least 1 to 3" of rain in that timeframe. However, given the extremely high moisture content some parts of the area will end up topping 10" of rain between now and the middle of next week.

That means some locations will likely experience a significant flash flood event in that time. Where and when that occurs remains to be seen but if you live in a flood prone area please monitor the forecast closely.

Tuesday storm coverage will be less than Monday as that front stalls and washes out over us. With less lift storms will likely be more isolated in nature but will still produce torrential rain, just not over as many locations.

Later in the week as stronger disturbances ride along the front more numerous storms are likely to take shape, especially by Thursday into the weekend. At some point it's likely at least part of our area sees a Flood Watch issued.

There's no sign of this pattern breaking into at least the first half of next week, although later in the week a ridge may build which could cap the atmopshere and lead to more isolated activity once again.
