Bob Aaron

Multimedia Journalist

With more than 50 years of broadcasting experience, I still enjoy the work.

As my wife Kim likes to say, “If it blows up, crashes, chemically leaks, catches on fire, or goes on strike—Bob’s there!”

I also like investigative work, no matter where it takes me in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. I’ve traveled more than a million miles telling your stories.

I am a Clarksburg native and read my first TV newscast there in 1965 but broadcasting has taken me to West Palm Beach, Columbus, Cincinnati, Waterloo-Cedar Rapids, Minneapolis and finally to Charleston, where I’ve worked since 1982 for WCHS-TV.

Except for service in the Navy during the Vietnam War, I have worked in radio and television since leaving high school.

My background includes producing major market newscasts but I often work alone in the field and was a "one-man-band” reporting, filming, writing and editing my own stories years before MMJ (Multi-Media Journalist) was an acronym.

I’ve been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters—twice.

As our Assistant News Director Leslie Rubin once said, “Only Bob could make such an impact in TV news in our area that he has achieved two lifetimes’ worth of recognition.”

I was inducted into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2011 and was inducted into the prestigious Gold Circle by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of the Arts and Sciences in 2023. The last is one of the highest Emmy honors and is given for distinguished service within the TV industry for more than 50 years.

I truly love my life, covering the news and enjoy spending time with my wife of more than 40 years and our pets: 7 cats, a dog and a mule.

If you see news happening, don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanks for watching.
