Anchor/Reporter

Hey there! I anchor the 5 and 6 a.m. shows for Eyewitness News and co-host ARC Appalachia at 8 a.m. I joined the Eyewitness News team in January 2020 as a weekday one-man-band reporter before being promoted to weekend anchor in 2021 and morning anchor in 2022.

I’m a West Sunbury, Pennsylvania native, but West Virginia has become my second home. The rural landscapes and small-town feel remind me a lot of where I’m from. I started my journalism career spending 3.5 years at our sister station, WTOV in Steubenville, Ohio, often working out of the station’s Wheeling bureau and covering West Virginia’s northern panhandle. While in that area, I reported on everything from heartbreaking hospital closures to evening breaking news to fairs and festivals across both states.

Moving to the Charleston-Huntington area in 2020 presented its own challenges, as I regularly covered the local impacts of the COVID pandemic and our way out of it. I’m grateful to have covered a variety of stories here since then, including economic development, the area’s homelessness issues, governor’s races, and wholesome feature stories. One of the stories I am most proud of is when I pestered Suddenlink to help a double amputee get his phone service back in Boone County.

I have a master’s degree in journalism education from Kent State University and a bachelor’s degree in communication from Waynesburg University. I was named 2025 Best Anchor by the West Virginia Broadcasters Association for my work in 2024.

Outside of the newsroom, I love sports, music and movies. Hockey is my favorite sport, and I root for the Pittsburgh Penguins. When it comes to music, I’m a metal head and love a good guitar riff. You can often find me playing my guitar and bass, whether it be at home or for my church. My favorite film franchises are Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Marvel.

I’m grateful to call this area home with my wife and our cats. We love checking out new restaurants and visiting new towns.

I’m most passionate about stories that are local and help people right here where we live. If you have any story ideas you’d like to share, email me at atconn@sbgtv.com.
